Joy Browne earned her Master of Education and Bachelor of Arts in Education degrees from The College of William & Mary in Virginia, one of the two oldest universities in America, with specialized post-degree training in remedial reading and special education from Our Lady of the Holy Cross College in New Orleans, Louisiana. She has since achieved educator certification in four states and taught kindergarten and first grade for many years in both public and private schools. She subsequently created, developed and ran her own private kindergarten, which incorporated Individualized Reading and was recognized by Connecticut’s State Certification Board for its curriculum excellence. She originally learned this technique in her college training and expanded upon it in her post-graduate special education training. This individualized application of structured education practices has proven to be advantageous in over three decades of teaching children in classes as well as in her one-on-one program.
